I took this idea from the Digital Photography School. It should be a fun quest. Take photos of your shoes and have some fun. Here is the article from the Digital Photography School website http://digital-photography-school.com/shoes-weekend-photography-challenge.
Put your shoes in unusual places or show your shoes going somewhere. Photograph them in color, b & w, neon, up-side-down, sideways, on - off, in the closet, on the floor, in the car, on top of the house. Have some fun with this one.
All photos must be taken during this Quest and taken by you. Size and amount of photos is up to you.
OK so I'm late again..sorry but since our Thanksgiving trip to Cali I've been so busy catching up with emails, mail and stuff that I'm behind again.
There weren't many entries for this quest so you all must be as busy as me! Thanks go to Realworld, Yancunyong and Cap'n Stephel for your great entries.
Realworld got the ball rolling on this quest with his photo collage of his list of things to be thankful for...wonderful work Real! I need to work on my collage skills, I've not done one that I real liked. Real has a great sense of composition and I like how he has combined text with photos and the pictures aren't all square. I really love how he placed the cat photos....very creative!
Along comes Yan with another wonderful example of a great collage with one photo with various enhancements. I love that Yan used the first photo he entered in a Photo Quest! He inspired me to look at some of my old photos and I found that I had over looked some good photos that I'm now working on...thanks Yan. Also thanks for the lovely complements on the Photo Quest!
Last but not least was Cap'n Stephels entries. Great photo Cap'n and a wonderful list of thankful things...I like the photo of buba the best in her series, great composition and she nailed the cat's eyes.
Great work all, and I'm so thankful that you post your photos to the Photo Quest and I get to see wonderful photos and learn from you work...thanks so much!
Gees I'm later than late for this Quest...but I so wanted to post what I'm thankful for and I gave it a lot of thought over my holiday trip...there was so much to be thankful for but there was the thing that allowed me to document it all and that was my cameras. VOX gave me the incentive to take photos, improve my photo skills and meet so many wonderful friends. And now my cameras are providing me with a way to earn a living.
Here is a photo of my two cameras with lots of photoshop on top.
I have to admit that I have so fallen in love with my Burtha..it has been a difficult relationship as she is heavy and complicated. I often read the manual when we are diving (OK hubby is doing the driving) back and forth to our place in Benson. I take photos from the car and try different settings as I go. This plus getting a great lens (28-105mm) that works so well for most subjects has really increased my use of Burtha and I haven't taken many photos with my Sylvia (Pentax). I took both to California on our trip but only used Burtha. Sylivia is getting jealous but her time will come.
Here are a few photos of thankfuls for my family.
Here are few of my favorite photos that show what I'm thankful for.
Thanks to all my VOX friends for enriching my life!
This Quest is a 2 week quest to give you time to reflect on what you are thankful for and how to capture that in a photo. We have had a lot of quests on techniques and photos effects. In this quest take what you have learned about photography and whatever photo software you use and create some photos of what makes you thankful.
For this quest you can use any photos you have and submit individual photos or a groups of photos. Get artistic and try different effects on your photos...filters, artistic, exposure and frames. Anything goes just lose your creative juices and have some fun.
I wish all that celebrate Thanksgiving a very wonderful time with family and friends.
Gees this week had a record 10 entries..sorry I'm late in commenting on them...I have the Thanksgiving rushing, stressed, out of control blues...well not really blue but it sounded good! Of course when I'm all stressed out I have the most entries ever. This is not a complaint as I'm thrilled with all the entries.
OK here goes starting with the 1st entry, I'm going to comment on the one I like the best of each post and why I picked the photo. Oh you also have to know that it is 10:30 pm and I'm trying to get everything together for a Thanksgiving event that starts tomorrow morning.
1st to post this week was TanyaRPM. My favorite was her photo of fallcuties. What I liked the best of this photo was that both the dog and her little boy are leaning in on each other. It is a great photo showing the relationship of the dog and the boy as being equal and dependent. The beautiful big eyes of the dog lead you right to the little boys face...very nice composition and the wonderful depth of field and bokeh background set off the subjects perfectly.
2nd to post was Darcy with her amazing PC spider. Im not sure that this spider is a pet but it is cute and this is a creative photo as I have never seen a spider on a PC before!
3rd to post was Maju with the most incredible cat that likes dental floss. OK now is the some kind of world record...I never have heard or seen a cat that flosses. My favorite of Maju's set of photos is the 4th photo as it looks as if the cat is have such a great time. I know how hard it is to get good photos of cats and photos of cats doing something are the hardest ever...Maju's photos are wonderful.
Now the 4th to post photos this week was Jacolily, Oh this was a very hard decision as all these photos were great. I think it was some what unfair of her to post so many wonderful photos of dogs and kids...very hard to judge the best one there. So I pick her first photo of the kitten around her neck. Not only is a great photo but I vote for Jacolily as the bravest women I know!
For the 5th entry along comes Anthrogrrl with photos of her dogs. I went back and forth several times to look at her photos to pick the one I liked best...I have to go with photo titled ears. I like the curve of the dogs head and neck and the shine on the coat...very nice photo!
#6 was Spike with some great cat photos. Yes, I do agree with Spike that cat photos are the hardest to get. My pick here is the Halloween cat photo. I like that it is done in black and white and she had nailed the eyes on this cat...great work Spike!
Then we have # 7 Yancunyong. OK you get the award for the most unusual pet a Stag Beetle. Wow now I've never heard of having a beetle as a pet. I liked this photo as the beetle was very well exposed and the pinchers looked very dangerous...is this the Stag Beetle that ate Tokyo?
For #8 CountrybyDesign wowed me with some great photos of her dogs. I had to look at her series several times to pick my favorite. I'm going with her 4th photo of her dog Paya in an old photo look. In this photo the dog really stands out. Nice work Country!
Now for #9 Amy Sue posted some great photos. Again it was very hard to pick the one I liked the best as I like them all. After looking at the photos over and over again I have to go with her first photo of her mom and bandit. There is such a terrific connection between her mom and her dog that Amy Sue captured in this photo and it is a winner.
Ok for the last entry #10 by RealWorld...now who can resist kittens...all his photos are great. Since this quest was on creative pet photos I have to go with the headbanger photo...very creative and fun too!
Thanks all for your wonderful entries this week and making this the best Photo Quest ever!
My first job was working as a make-up artist in my mom's cosmetic shop, which was located in "the dead mall" across the street from the mega-mall, where everyone respectable went to shop. The only folks who ventured into the dead mall were those with bizarre fetishes they wanted to try out in "public" without actually being too far out into the public sphere. My four hour shift was often punctuated with high school principals and construction workers in drag, trying out the new high heels they just scored at Payless; a 60 yr. old woman dressed as a naughty school girl being led around on a leash by her husband; your occasional flasher; foot fetish guy who would creepily make me show him the colors of "toenail" polish we carried and on & on...
Anyway, it appears that Vox is now the dead mall. Of course, I'm sure there are still many "respectable" folks on here...but more so, there are a lot just letting their freak flag fly. And I love it. You are my people and I'm happy to be back. But don't send me pictures of your penis. Thanks.
I'm taking this week's topic from Darren Rowe's weekly newsletter. My rules are a little different. Since we are getting into the busy time of the year...Holiday Season...you can use old photos or take new ones. Take some photos of your pets, your neighbor's pets, your parent's pets, the school pets, or neighborhood pets. Here is a link to Dareen's article on taking photos of pets http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-photograph-pets.
Have some fun and dress up your pet or take a photo of a pet in an unusual place. You can use photoshop to change the photo background or change the shape or position of the pet. You can clone your pet or pets....anything goes this week...show me your creativity!
Boy we had a great turnout for the #78 Photo Quest on Diagonal Lines. Thanks to Cap'n Stephel, Darcy, Yancunyong, Trailblazer, anthrogrrl, Maju and Spike for some really amazing photos! I'm not sure the Trailblazer wanted in but I'm including her.
For each person that posts to the quest I pick the one photo that I liked the best and that fit the Photo Quest the best. Just because I pick one photo does not mean I dislike the others! It isn't easy to pick one from each participant as the photos are so good!
I'm going to start with Spike as she was the first to post for this week's quest. My favorite was the "Steve at the Reaper Miniatures factory looking like the kid in a candy store", photo. Look at how all the toys on the wall form long, multiple lines drawing your eye right to Steve. I also like the texture created by the toys and the fun way she used diagonal lines in the photo great job Spike!
Maju just took my breath away with her photo of Regent's Canal 02! This is a BIG WOW photo! Notice how the walkway, the trees, the reflection in the water pulls your eye right to the bridge. The composition on this photo is wonderful with the bridge right at the ROT point! In this photo even the light areas with no details, water without reflections and the sky pull your eye to the bridge. Wonderful work Maju!!
Next was Antrogrrl and what a nice surprise that we get to see some of her "old archaeology photos for this challenge." You made it hard for me to choose one photo as you had so many great ones this week. I have to say I liked 2 snow tracks the best. The tracks in the snow, the diagonal line of the plants, the mountains and the sky push your eye right to the furtherest point. The angle of the photo and the diagonal lines give the photo a feeling of a never ending landscape. The tracks in the snow tell the viewer the snow is fresh and the people in the vehicle where the first to see this landscape. This photo tells a great story, super photo Antrogrrl!
Trailblazer posted two interesting photos to the Photo Quest Group. My favorite was the first photo Ink-and-surf-jpg. There are several diagonal lines in this photo. The surfers arms, legs, the surf board and the surf all provide great diagonal lines. I really liked the way we have two diagonal lines coming together with the surfer in the forground arms, forming one diagonal line and the surf board forming the opposite diagonal line. The intersection of these lines draw your eye right to that point. Nice capture Trailblazer!
Yan's many wonderful photo all with great examples of diagonal lines really caused me to stop and consider all the photos before I made my selection. I really have to pick Photographers @Mt. Gomadan as I loved all the photographers lined up with their tripods to take photos of the fall colors. This is a very fun photo full of color and lots of interest in what the photographers are doing and thinking about how each one is taking their photos. Great photo Yan!
I pick Darcy's photo of her son playing the in water sprinkler as my favorite. What a fun photo. It makes me want to run in a sprinker too. Here Darcy has framed her son with the diagonal lines of the sprinkler on either side. This was a hard shot to get as she has the camera shutter slow enough to capture the sprinkler water in drops and the camera set fast enough to get a very clear shot of her son. This is another photo that tells a story of Darcy's son enjoying his summer. Love this one Darcy!
Last but not least are the photos from Cap'n Stephel. Her photos are always full of personality. You got to look at the snowman in the pumpkin patch! The photo I liked best from her post is the first one of the trail. The fence and the shadow of the fence give the photo a great sense of depth, distance and mystery. She didn't tell us the whole story here as we can't see the end of the trail...we keep looking be we can't see that far as the trees cover our view. Very nice photo Cap'n!
I was going through some photos I took at Tumacacri Mission a few weeks back and I saw a lot of photo with diagonal lines. So I'm just going to post a couple for this quest. For this one I changed it to black and white added some noise and artistic stuff and lighting. The diagonal lines are the stones on the grave site.
I played a little more with the next photo. I selected the church and didn't select the brick tower. Then I changed the church to black and white, worked some on the contrast and brightness, added an artistic filter and erased the black and white from the top arch and the two diagonal columns. By added color to the the diagonal lines I wanted to push the viewers eye up to the arch and the cross on top of the church.
In this photo the main subject the pots are in a diagonal line. In the original photo the pots where in a dark shadow. I cropped the photo then selected the shadow and lightened it and added saturation. Then I selected the light wall that was too light, added contrast, darked the highlights and added saturation. Now the shadow looks more like a stain or paint on the all and less like a shadow.
The last photos is of the columns supporting the covered over the walkway for the visitor's center. In this photo the diagonal line formed by the columns draws the eye to the door.
Gees can you believe this is the 78th Photo Quest? Seems like I started this just a few months ago. I thank all the loyal members for all their great photos and for teaching me more about photography.
For this weeks quest lets look at diagonal lines and how they contribute to a photo. You can use diagonal lines to draw to eye to your subject or the lines can be your subject. The human eye natural views an image by going from left to right. By placing a diagonal line from left to right you are using that natural view to your advantage by now drawing the eye to your subject. Make it easy for the viewed to know what your subject is.
Can you look at your photos and know what the subject is? Do you look for the subject of your photo in your view finder or LCD before you click the shutter? Do you remember the rule of thirds?
Now that I've filled you with questions....here is this week's quest. Take some photos using diagonal lines. Photos can be any that you have taken in the last year. If you can't find a photo with diagonal lines or can't find a subject with diagonal lines around use a photo software to make some lines. No excuses this time.
Here is a great article on diagonal lines http://digital-photography-school.com/using-diagonal-lines-in-photography. Any questions...please ask! Take care and have a wonderful week.
